In more progressive and somewhat better educated countries, like Scandinavia, opposing parties work together for the common good, despite their Political differences.
How different from how it is done “over here”! Although Democrats usually try to get Republicans to support legislation and programs of common interest, the ingrained Republican philosophy seems to be to resist anything and everything from Democrats, even programs they themselves usually support!
When Barack Obama was elected president, the first colored person ever, top Republicans, with smug-faced Mitch McConnell in charge, decided that they would resist all that this black guy might try to do and make sure he became a single-term president. Not only didn’t it work, but Obama was elected twice, with a comfortable margin, both EC-wise and with primary votes, turning out to be better and more accomplished than both his predecessor Bush jr., and any of his successors, – from either party.
Even social programs like those Democratically established in the 1930s, as well as Obama’s ACA, have been on the Republican list of those they’ll try to destroy. The Voting Rights bills have figured prominently on their hit lists, too. Yes, voting should be for “Whites Only”! How revealing!
