Guest post: “Obama deserves highest honor”, LTE by Guy Guerrero, SM Daily Journal August 23, 2016

Editor, Thanks to President Obama, today Americans are enjoying life and have money in their pockets and in their investment portfolios. Like the mythological Phoenix, our economy has risen from the ashes of the 2009 Great Recession, despite the unrelenting drive of the Republican party, fueled by the anger of its tea party members, to ensure his failure. From day one in 2009, when President Obama took office, conservative political operatives began hatching their plot to bring him down. It was their plan not only to cause his entire political agenda to fail, but also to destroy him personally. From the very beginning of the Obama administration, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the then House minority leader John Boehner made it clear they had a different agenda: they would automatically oppose anything President Obama put forward. McConnell famously vowed to make Obama a one-term president. The personal attacks on President Obama have been relentless and uglier than those against other presidents in the history of America. If President Obama was a foot soldier, and had he been subjected to the equivalent withering, sustained bombardment over a long period from the enemy and yet succeeded in saving his company from annihilation, he would have received the highest possible award, the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Thank you, Guy: There is no doubt in my mind that Obama will go down in history as one of the best we have ever had! It is absolutely incredible what he has been able to do, despite compact obstruction from a Republican-infested Congress! He has also restored our respect in foreign countries, – I read European newspapers daily in several languages, so I know what I am talking about.

“Obama truly deserving of honor”, LTE by Linda Slocum Lara, SM Daily Journal, August 31, 2016:
Editor, I would like to say amen to Guy Guerrero’s letter of Aug. 23, 2016, “Obama deserves highest honor.” I agree with Mr. Guerrero 100 percent. It has saddened and disgusted me all these years that President Obama has been challenged and fought from every angle through the congressional leadership of Mitch McConnell, John Boehner and others. They had an agenda to undo President Obama and make him fail. To me this is shameful politics. This kind of behavior from our politicians and leaders make it really hard to respect our representatives. I agree that President Obama has brought class and dignity to the White House and to the presidency. He is a gentleman, and if I could vote for him a third time I most certainly would. President Obama most definitely does deserve a Congressional Medal of Honor as Mr. Guerrero so eloquently described.

Thank you, Linda, for your wise words to support Guerreros’ excellent LTE! It is a shame how our duly elected President Obama has been treated, – while his predessor ‘W’ actually got away with mass murder, – and more! What Obama has been able to accomplish, after being stuck with the disaster the ‘W’ administration left him, is absolutely incredible, – especially considering the compact obstruction from a Republican-infested Congress. But, of course, there will always be intellectually challenged racists who would never accept anything good from someone of color! In that respect we’re a backwards country, unfortunately.
