It is hard to believe that the Republican National Committee could get away with saying that the Trump’s rioters were ordinary citizens who are being persecuted for engaging in legitimate political discourse. Aren’t these the people that everyone saw breaking into the Capitol building, beating up the police, vandalizing government property and threatening to hang the vice president.

In his latest book, “Unthinkable”, Jan. 6 commission member Congressman Jaime Raskin describes in vivid details what it felt like to be inside Capitol during the vicious mob attack on Jan. 6. Especially for him, having his two surviving children hiding somewhere inside, it must have been a horrifying experience. He wondered, though, why the police didn’t shoot the invaders, with the intention to kill. Why do they carry weapons if they shouldn’t be used in situations like that, when vicious lowlife is hunting for federal officers, including the VP and the Speaker of the House? How much worse can it get, – before those assigned as defenders, do their job and defend, both Federal employees and the US Constitution? The attackers were Trump-inspired bandits! How much lower on society’s totem pole can you slide?
