Trump’s shield of excuse

Trump’s lame excuse when caught using the Nazi-reminiscent Star of David in a derogatory tweet about Hillary Clinton, was that it was actually meant to be a sheriff’s star.
If that were true, – why wasn’t it displayed with the 7 points customary for sheriff stars, rather than the 6 for the Jewish emblem?
