All the talk about President-elect Donald Trumps lies, reminds me of George Costanza on the Jerry Seinfeld TV series: “A lie is not a lie if you believe it!”
So, in all fairness, let’s give Trump the benefit of doubt: he may not lie, but only be so incredibly dumb and uneducated that he actually believes all the nonsense he comes up with, whether that is President Obama’s birth certificate, scores of Muslims cheering on 9/11, – or an avalanche of other nonsense he makes up.
A glaring difference between Trump and his lying Republican predecessors, though, is that
his lies have surfaced before his inauguration, while for example George W. Bush’ lies about WMDs in Iraq, and Nixon’s lies about not monkey-wrenching the Paris peace talks, only became painfully apparent too late, resulting in unnecessary loss of thousands of lives around the world. And, that’s no lie!
Do we learn from history, – or do we need to have our noses rubbed into the mess now building up before we can smell what is coming? Not enough yet of the mess Republican administrations always make? How slowly do we learn? Then again, it took Donald Trump 5 years to understand what was abundantly clear to most of us, that President Obama was born in the US. Or, did he lie about that, too, just to score a cheap point among his intellectually challenged, racist followers? Makes you wonder, – which is something everybody should do!
